COURSE DESCRIPTION

This intensive course is designed for Unity developers looking to transition seamlessly into Unreal Engine 5. Covering Unreal’s unique workflows, Blueprints, and C++ integration to AI, networking, and performance optimization, the course provides a structured learning path to help professionals leverage their existing knowledge while mastering Unreal. By the end, students will have built a fully functional prototype incorporating advanced features like AI, physics, or multiplayer.

Month 1: Unreal Engine Foundations & Core Systems

• Unreal Engine vs Unity, differences in philosophy, tools, and pipelines
• Project structure, folder organization, Blueprints, and C++ compared to Unity’s C#
• Deep dive into Unreal Editor with scene setup, navigation, viewports, actors, and components
• Blueprint visual scripting basics for non-programmers and comparisons with Unity’s C# scripting
• Gameplay Framework including Pawn, Controller, GameMode, and GameState
• Events, delegates, and input systems in C++ for handling player interaction
• Material Editor introduction with shader and material workflows unique to Unreal
• Niagara particle system overview and differences from Unity’s particle effects
• Level design and world-building with landscapes, foliage system, and lighting techniques
• Character movement, animation setup, and navigation systems
• Create a basic interactive level using Blueprints, imported assets, and UI elements

Month 2: Advanced Unreal Systems & Customization

• AI development using Behavior Trees and transitioning from Unity’s NavMesh system
• Physics interactions with Chaos Physics, constraints, and physical materials
• Advanced animation workflows including blend spaces, animation retargeting, and root motion
• UI development with UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics) vs Unity’s Canvas system
• Blueprint best practices including function libraries, event dispatchers, and optimized scripting
• C++ integration with Unreal’s API, creating custom components, and memory management
• Networking fundamentals with replication, multiplayer frameworks, and network debugging

Month 3: Project Development & Finalization

• Advanced gameplay features such as AI behaviors, physics interactions, and multiplayer networking
• Final project development with structured guidance and iteration on core mechanics

• Packaging and deployment for different platforms including PC, console, and mobile
• Source control setup with Git and Perforce for collaborative game development
